Tagetes patula 'Ground Control'
Maximum management of harmful nematodes with Tagetes 'Ground Control'
Tagetes patula 'Ground Control' was specifically developed by Takii for growers who want to suppress harmful lesion nematodes in the most efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly way.
'Ground Control' helps by managing these harmful pests that cause lower yields and poor quality in crops.
Multi-year research performed by Wageningen University & Research (WUR) using 'Ground Control' has demonstrated that 'Tagetes' is an efficient and cost-effective cover crop that can reduce lesion nematode populations.
Tagetes patula 'Ground Control' has the most potent controlling properties of the lesion nematode Pratylenchus penetrans compared with Tagetes erecta, Tagetes minuta or mixtures.
In addition to controlling nematode populations, 'Ground Control' promotes the supply of organic matter and improves the soil structure.
Above ground, Tagetes 'Ground Control' delivers a valuable contribution to biodiversity.
'Ground Control' worthwhile
Recent research with 'Ground Control' performed by WUR has revealed that growing Tagetes patula as a green manure crop has a positive impact on the yield of potatoes, onions, carrots, lilies, roses, strawberries and fruit trees. In addition, Tagetes 'Ground Control' contributes to the supply of organic matter and improves the structure and moisture-retention capacity of soil. In general, 120mt of fresh mass per hectare is produced, which provides a considerable amount of effective organic matter.
Maximum management
Tagetes 'Ground Control' provides maximum suppression of Pratylenchus penetrans. Growing 'Ground Control' successfully is half the hard work. The following tips will help:
Drill rate: 5-10kg per hectare
Drill from mid-May to mid-August
For best results, drilling is recommended between mid-June and mid-July.
A corn drill can be used, provided the Tagetes seed is agitated to keep it freely moving and loose.
Drill depth: 0.5 - 1.0cm
Preferably drill into a moist seedbed
Tagetes requires a nitrogen application of 50 - 80 kg N per hectare
Keep the crop free from weeds. Weeds promote the multiplication of nematodes.
For best results, grow the crop for a minimum of 100 days

About nematode
Lesion nematodes mainly cause problems on sandy soils, dune sand, cover sand and reclaimed peat soils. The main crops susceptible to lesion nematodes are potatoes, onion grown from seed, carrots, lilies, roses, strawberries and fruit trees.
